Moenkopi and other info

A special thanks to all who participated in the Lower Village Moenkopi work from the Hopi Tribe and the Lower Village leadership.

Dave Dehner is doing much better after his fall. The wrist has been set and casted. He will be in it for five more weeks. Pray there is no permanent damage.

Plans are for another trip in the spring. More info later.

AzDR Training 1 and 2 March. We recommend Mud/Ash Out Training for all our volunteers, at a very minimum. The more you know the more valuable you are to the ministry of DR and Rebuilders.

Have a very Merry Christmas and I will keep you posted on upcoming events and needs.

Tuba City and Moenkopi

Funds have been acquired to repair the units it the lower village of Moenkopi which is on the south side of Tuba City one hour north of Flagstaff.

Teams of 4 to 6 are needed for each unit that needs repairs. Time estimate for each unit runs from 3 to 6 days with a crew of 6. As of today there is not local help identified for the jobs. Local help is being sought from the village and the local high school building classes. These jobs will require more prep (stripping, pulling nails, patching) than finish work.

Roll roofing and drywall are the type of work. Strip old, lay down drip edging and underlayment, cover and secure roofs. Drywall ceilings after the roof is assured (you know it will be done). If you start a unit you will have to stay until the job is done, so add a day to our estimate just in case.

Housing is available in the village center which has a bath room but no showers. You will need sleeping bags or equivalent, mattress, and pillows, and you will be sleeping on the floor or if you are lucky a folding table. Cots are an option to bring, also.

Food is available in the local community five minutes away with everything from Denny's to Sonic and McDonalds.

All costs beyond materials will have to be borne by the volunteers. We are actively seeking assistance with fuel and food expenses so hang onto receipts for a while.

If you are interested there are two options:
    1. Put together a team and pick dates between 4 November and Thanksgiving. Most of this is roof work so warmer weather is a must unless you have access to a hot tar pot.
    2. Let me know you are available and we will add you to a team that is short.

This will be a tremendous opportunity to show the love of Christ to an entire village.

Tuba City, Arizona, Floods

Tuba City survived the tornado a couple of years ago and has now been hit with floods.  Eye witnesses state roads undercut and quite a few homes damaged.  AZ Dept. of Emergency Management has asked us to ready teams to go to Tuba City for repair work.  Eval team will go in on 1 October 2012 to determine the damage, repairability, and materials needed for the work.  Navajo tribe is to purchase materials.

We are asking for teams to go to Tuba City to complete the work once the materials are on the ground. Estimated first crews in mid October.

If you are able to work, let us know.  If you can put together a team of three or four to do repairs let us know.  When you call or email, please be ready to share skills that you and/or your crew may have so jobs can be matched with skills.

Thanks.

The project in Dominica is building starter houses. 16' X 16' houses with no plumbing or electricity. Cost per house is about $3000. Cost of trip is about $2000 per person. The object is to build 5 or more houses in a one week visit. We need a 10+ person crew with general carpentry and tote/fetch experience. Some digging may be required. Side hill work is in the mix.
